What Is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy was developed by William Garner Sutherland in 1899. It was originated to address a wide variety of traumas and dysfunctions of the brain, cranium, and central nervous system. It has evolved into a gentle and powerful hands-on approach for working at the intersection of body, mind, and spirit. The goal of craniosacral therapy is to optimize the environment in which the CNS functions by releasing or decreasing restrictions to motion in the cranial rhythmic impulse. By unlocking and opening the architecture of the craniosacral system (the bones, membranes, fluids, and joints that surround the CNS) the function of the entire organism improves, often resolving a wide variety of conditions, symptoms, and dis-eases in the body. It is not just about moving the bones around or trying to address symptomatic parts of the body. The larger goal is to facilitate the healing potential of an individual by releasing any interference to the full expression and potency of the Breath of Life within the craniosacral system and the organism as a whole. Craniosacral therapy is gentle and safe to be utilized with newborns to the elderly. Craniosacral therapy can help with issues related to sinuses, headaches, TMJ, anxiety, depression, ear infections, birth trauma, and many other issues.
